I am here in Virginia, just in time greet the great winter storm of 2010 - 30 inches. I am holed up here in the Westin hotel in Tysons Corner, unable to move.
It's been a long time since I saw snow. Having lived in Los Angeles for about ten years now, and having attempted to escape the driving in the snow, and the bitterness of the dark forlorn nights, fate has finally caught up with me. My son took the Amtrak from New Jersey just in time to beat the snow storm and joined my wife and me here. We were to spend the weekend together visiting DC and planning out college choices and classes. He is a junior now in his school. A few years ago in these blogs I wrote about our first trip out to his boarding school. It is hard to believe that it bas been already two and a half years.
Everything around us is fragile. I live in La Canada, which is where the Station Fires were and the mudslides are now happening. I am protected from it, but these disasters are very real to me. I see the economic turmoil, and I just had to lay off one of my employees. I had to . . . even though I went to his wedding just last week. Relationships are fragile. You don’t know that you’ve got it good, until it is not there anymore.
This site was rolling even about a year ago. I do not know how these sites are controlled or marketed but it lost steam. Undoubtedly, if not this site, other venues will come forth. I met some people on this site - all genuinely good people. It was fun. Now we wait for the next wave, and when it comes we go for the full ride once again.
